Baker X @ Orchard Central

Baker X @ Orchard Central is a project to give budding home-baking entrepreneurs the opportunity to trial with a physical outlet and scale their business.

Through this initiative, Far East Organization aims to encourage the entry of new brands and enhance the business ecosystem in Singapore by providing customers with more choices and encouraging greater diversity.

Bakers work in a fully equipped baking studio and café, a physical space provided to them at no cost, over a period of 2 to 6 weeks to bake and sell. The cafe also houses home-based e-commerce coffee business, Sabana Coffee, which opens on Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 5:30pm, closed on public holidays.

Our next baker is BakeDept, operating from 3 May to 26 June 2025. We spoke to founder, Jun Gui, to find out more about her journey.

BakeDept

Nestled in the local community, BakeDept is the passion project of Jun Gui, a dedicated artisan who sees dessert as an opportunity for personalised artistry. Specialising in custom ice cream cakes that become the heart of any celebration, they also dream up unique artisanal ice cream flavours, perfect for parties in handy cups and pints.

Beyond simply selling sweet treats, Jun Gui is keen to share their craft, offering engaging mini ice cream and baking classes for birthday parties and holiday programmes. Through these hands-on sessions, they aim to educate on creating healthier bakes and ice cream at home.

For those who love traditional baked goods, Jun Gui also crafts artisanal tarts and cookies. Demonstrating a commitment to wider accessibility, they also partner with Naturally Artisanal to create a selection of halal bakes. In short, BakeDept is where Jun Gui's creativity meets deliciousness, offering more than just treats – it's a taste of artistry and a chance to learn the joy of making.

Their offerings include a tempting selection of Cookies, available in various options, alongside convenient Mini and Standard-sized bottles. For a thoughtful present, they also feature charming Cookie Giftsets.

Indulge in their Handcrafted Ice Cream, available by the single cup, or perhaps try their unique Kopi Gao served with Peanut Butter Toasties. For a warm and gooey delight, the Lava Cake comes with your choice of ice cream, and for enjoying at home, take-home Pints(16oz) of their ice cream are also available.

For a healthier option, BakeDept offers Handcrafted Acai bowls, complete with granola and your choice of two toppings. Finally, their bakes include Cakes, Waffles, Tarts, alongside Classic, Pandan Kaya, and Chocolate Waffles, with the tempting option to add a scoop of their delicious ice cream. For a special occasion, their Ice Cream Cakes are available in a 500g size.
